Dear Visitor, I am a German native speaker fluent in written and spoken English, having lived and worked in the UK for 3.5 years. I am committed, pro-active, creative, accurate, reliable, commercially aware, quality and customer service-oriented. I enjoy working independently with little supervision.
Furthermore I enjoy a challenge: In one of my past employments I had the role of Branch Manager of a European Distribution office for fasteners. I worked on my own and was responsible for the entire sales: quotations, generating orders, order processing, arranging transport, invoicing, stock control and credit control. The sales office was initially very successful but was later closed because of competition from Far East.
In my current position at the University of Vienna, Department of Methods in the Social Sciences as a Departmental Secretary (maternity cover), I deal with the English language on a daily basis, for example, when organising guest professorships. Indeed, about 30% of my work requires written or spoken English and I am definitely interested to work in an environment where this percentage is higher, thus making better use of my skills.
Other than my language skills, my current position requires various other skills, such as a strong organisational competence. I was able to successfully organise events such as lectures and workshops with guest speakers, summer schools and guest professorships, while at the same time keeping up with the department's correspondence with students, booking of lecture rooms and hotel rooms, liaising with personnel and financial departments, providing general administrative support to all staff members, ordering stationery, processing invoices, keeping records of our own library stock and ordering books, checking projects' financial status in SAP, and administering the department's web page.
In addition, I am a good communicator and team player, willing and able to work in a multicultural environment, my colleagues being from all over Europe.
Until a year ago, on top of my part time position at the Department of Methods, I worked part time at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences where I also took care of various administrative routines, such as compiling and printing lecture notes', selling them to students and the updating and reorganisation of the institute's extensive library, among other duties.
I am familiar with various office software, Apple and Windows-based. In 2008 I passed the "ECDL Advanced" for Word and Excel, as well as the "ECDL basic" for Powerpoint and Access. I also covered the following courses at the University of Vienna: Office Management, Adobe Acrobat forms, Typo3 and Fire Protection Officer.
To conclude, I would like to stress that I am young for my age. I enjoy working in a team of younger, dynamic colleagues. Staff at my current work place are mostly between 20 and 30 years younger than I am. I feel that I can contribute to the success of any business because of my in-depth knowledge acquired during my career so that I am a competent contact for a variety of questions younger colleagues might have. My varied career is proof that I can adopt to different situations and requirements and I am a fast learner.
